If you read my last newsletter, you caught a glimpse of my travels to Ireland and Barcelona to visit my daughter and son-in-law.
Krista (my wife) and I arrived home last Wednesday after a twelve-hour flight and just now are shaking off jet lag.
During our trip overseas, I was caught off guard by the unexpected convergence of art, faith, and history that I hope will be an encouragement to you today.
Many of you know that I am the founder of an arts non-profit ministry here in Southern California, named The Grove Center for the Arts & Ministry. Visiting Ireland and Barcelona was a needed reminder of the purpose and role of art throughout the ages.
In Dublin, we visited the Book of Kells, written around 800 A.D. The Book of Kells — the 4 Gospels written in Latin with intricate Celtic calligraphy. An amazing, artistic depiction of the enduring Word of God.
On the Aran Island of Inismor, we visited the ruins of the Seven Churches, which are two churches and a monastery built between the fifth and eighth centuries. A place of ancient Christian pilgrimage.
Throughout Ireland, we were reminded of St. Patrick, who went from captivity as a seventeen-year-old to a calling from God to bring the Gospel to Ireland. St. Patrick is not the leprechaun figure many people make him out to be. He was a devout Christ follower who built churches, monasteries, healed the sick and fed the poor.
At the Picasso Museum in Barcelona, I walked through 16 rooms of one man's artistic journey and commitment to his craft.
Krista and I strolled through Antoni Gaudí's Casa Batlló, one of his many architectural wonders. Highly recommended!
Gaudi once wrote, "The straight line belongs to Man. The curved line belongs to God."
Last, we visited Gaudí's Sagrada Familia Cathedral, which was started in 1882 and is still under construction! Looking up at the huge yellow cranes, hearing grinders, and pounding, it was a fitting reminder that God's Church is still under construction!
All these places, sights, and more were a powerful testament of God at work through art, faith, and His people throughout history.
I've had the privilege of working with artists of all disciplines for almost twenty-five years. At The Grove, we remind ourselves why we work with artists... Because artists influence everything.
It's why I write books and screenplays... stories that I hope bring beauty, truth and goodness into your life.
I want my books and workshops to be as accessible to you as possible. To help you save a few dollars, I'm offering a 15% Spring Special for your entire shopping cart. Use COUPON CODE: Spring15
